At La Garganta, our main supplier is nature

When you depend on her, looking after her is no longer a choice but a responsibility.

At La Garganta, we have been incorporating sustainability, efficiency and respect for the environment into every decision we make for many years. We are taking a further step towards reducing our environmental footprint, optimising resources and building an even more resilient tourism model for future generations.

A DIFFERENT WAY OF LOOKING AT TOURISM

Sustainability isn’t something we do. It’s the way we work.

La Garganta was born out of the restoration of an old flour mill right in the heart of El Chorro. Since then, every decision has been guided by the same philosophy: to use resources responsibly, to respect the landscape, and to give back to the environment a part of all that it offers us.

Because if there’s one thing we’re certain of, it’s that nature is our main supplier.

A COMMITMENT THAT IS ALREADY UNDERWAY

Años transformando la sostenibilidad en acciones reales

These are all the measures we have put in place to reduce our environmental impact:

  • Solar energy for domestic hot water
  • Efficient underfloor heating system
  • Water reuse to reduce water consumption
  • Smart lighting sensors
  • Selective waste sorting
  • Priority given to local and nearby suppliers
  • Reuse of historic materials and heritage restoration

More than 59 climate actions are now part of our management model.

THE CHALLENGE

Measuring to improve

Sustainability requires commitment, but also knowledge.

That is why we have carried out a comprehensive analysis of our carbon footprint to identify the main sources of emissions and design a roadmap capable of delivering real and measurable improvements.

122.35 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent analysed to develop a data-driven reduction plan.

Category 1

Direct GHG emissions and removals [61.22%]. This includes fuel consumption from stationary sources and vehicles owned by the complex, as well as fugitive emissions resulting from the recharging of refrigerants in air-conditioning equipment.

Category 2

Indirect emissions from imported energy [0%]. This corresponds to the emissions associated with the electricity consumption supplied by the electricity supplier throughout 2025 at the hotel’s premises.

Categoría 3

Indirect emissions from transport [0.05%]. This includes staff travel (assessed via a travel survey covering 224 working days) and suppliers’ logistics transport.

Category 4

Indirect emissions from products used by the organisation [38.73%]. This is one of the most critical items, calculated using physical and monetary factors, and encompasses the carbon footprint of catering services, the purchase of materials and the consumption of drinking water from the municipal supply.

Category 5 and 6

Other indirect emissions [0%]. This includes the impact of end-of-life treatment of the waste generated (such as municipal waste, sewage sludge, etc.).

THE PROJECT

Three steps to transform our environmental impact

Water

Every drop counts

Implementation of an advanced biological water treatment and water reuse system that will significantly reduce drinking water consumption.

Expected annual savings of 5,000 m³.

Energy

Generating clean energy where we need it

Installation of a solar photovoltaic system integrated into the complex’s car park to boost self-consumption and reduce energy dependence.

46.91 MWh of renewable energy per year.

Naturgy

The landscape is also part of the solution

Reforestation using native species adapted to the environment to promote biodiversity and increase carbon sequestration capacity.

50 new trees and shrubs.

OUR ROADMAP

Regenerative tourism in the heart of Andalusia

Our aim is not simply to reduce our environmental impact.

We want to demonstrate that it is possible to develop a form of tourism capable of generating economic, social and environmental value all at the same time.

A model that protects the environment, strengthens the local area and enhances the experience of our visitors.
