Description and itinerary
Discover the El Chorro Via Ferrata – Caminito del Rey is situated in the heart of the Desfiladero de los Gaitanes Natural Park, in the Guadalhorce Valley, within the municipality of Álora (Málaga). This area is world-renowned for its stunning landscape, its vertical cliffs and its significance in the world of climbing.
The El Chorro Via Ferrata is classified as a K3 route, making it a medium-difficulty route, ideal for those looking for an exciting yet accessible challenge. Its difficulty lies more in its length than in its technical complexity, making it perfect for enjoying at a steady pace without rushing.
The tour begins at the reception of the Hotel-Restaurant La Garganta in El Chorro (Álora), on the southern approach, 100 metres from the El Chorro-Caminito del Rey train station, where you’ll be met by an expert local guide who will assist you, provide technical advice and help you capture the best photographs at unique vantage points.
The route takes approximately 4 hours to complete, during which you’ll enjoy a truly comprehensive experience: a vertical climb up iron steps as you gain height above the valley, a 35-metre zip line, a 15-metre Tibetan bridge and a 30-metre suspension bridge offering spectacular views of the Encantadas reservoir and the stunning surroundings of the Chorro reservoir.
After completing the route, you’ll go on a short downhill trek back to the starting point, enjoying the panoramic views of the famous stone bridge of the Caminito del Rey and the flora and fauna of the nature reserve along the way, where it is common to spot birds of prey such as the griffon vulture.
The walk ends at the meeting point, La Garganta Hotel-Restaurant. Here, you can relax and continue to enjoy the views of the final section of the Caminito del Rey canyon from the terrace of La Garganta Restaurant, or take the train back, or collect your car, which is parked right there.
The activity takes place in small groups to ensure safety and personalised attention for each participant. This allows the guide to provide constant support, making the experience intimate, safe and tailored to the group’s pace.
Esta experiencia es perfecta tanto para principiantes como para aventureros con algo de experiencia, ya que no se requiere formación previa, solo una condición física adecuada y ganas de disfrutar de una jornada inolvidable.
