Rules for Using El Caminito del Rey

If you're planning to visit the Caminito del Rey, it's very important that you familiarize yourself with the mandatory rules, which you must follow, so you can enjoy your visit and avoid any setbacks.

Rules

Umbrellas, walking sticks, or selfie sticks

During the winter season, please remember that you are NOT allowed to bring umbrellas inside. Also, please note that you are NOT allowed to bring any type of extendable pole, that is, walking sticks, selfie sticks, etc., are prohibited.

Closed-toe athletic shoes

We recommend that you always wear closed-toe athletic shoes, both for your comfort and because flip-flops or open-heeled shoes are not permitted.

Admission for Minors

Children under 8 years of age are NOT permitted to enter. In addition, you must always carry a document proving the child’s age.

Mandatory Use of the Official Helmet

You must wear your helmet at all times during the tour. You may only wear the helmet provided by Caminito at the entrance; therefore, you will not be allowed to enter with any other type of helmet.

Recommendations to keep in mind

Restrooms at the Entrance and Exit

Restrooms are only available at the entrance and exit, so there are no restrooms along the trail. Therefore, it’s best to arrive at the entrance without needing to use the restroom. Book your tickets at www.lagarganta.com to ensure all these services are available in perfect conditions.

Afternoon Entry

The later entry times, especially in summer, are the best. There are fewer people on the Caminito, and since the trail is in the shade of the mountain, you’ll be much less exposed to the sun.

Bring Drinks

Guided tours, from the time you leave the southern area (La Garganta) until you return, last approximately 4 hours. Therefore, it’s recommended to bring and drink plenty of water (1.5 L per person in summer) and pack some snacks.

Take a guided tour

El Caminito is a marvel of nature and engineering, but its history and anecdotes will make the experience ten times more memorable.

Assistance at all times

One advantage of going with a guide is that they’re there to help you. If you start from La Garganta, you’ll receive information and assistance right from the moment you check in at the reception desk. So, if you have any questions or needs, please let us know so we can make your experience as enjoyable as possible.

Shuttle Bus

When it comes to parking, it’s best to head south, where you’ll park just 500 meters from the shuttle bus. This way, your car will be right at the exit, when you finish your tour of El Caminito, you’ll walk straight back to your car. And if you book through www.lagarganta.com, your private bus ticket is included.

The Train: The best option

Take the train if possible, its schedule works very well with the tours. For example, guided tours from www.lagarganta.com are at 9:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and 2:30 p.m. You can check the train schedule at www.renfe.com
